ST. MARYS – The Exeter Centennials men's soccer team travelled to St. Marys July 21 to face a team they'd beaten 4-2 just two weeks prior.

Despite a strong effort from St. Marys that saw them with a pair of two-goal leads in the second half, Exeter managed a 3-3 draw.

St. Marys came out strong in the early going and soon had a 1-0 lead, according to Centennials spokesperson Dan Kinsman.

Exeter came back with solid scoring chances from Darren Marziailli and Jacob Unwin, but were unable to find the net before the half.

Again in the second half St. Marys started strong and soon had the second goal of the game. Determined to put the Centennials back in the game, Jared Easton made a run to the net and with a chance to score was fouled by a St. Marys defender.

The Centennials were awarded a penalty kick, which Matt Prout took, and in short time had the team back within one goal.

"Prout (has) consistently been amongst the top scores in the league this season and his finesse at scoring on penalty kicks has been a big factor in the team's success," Kinsman said.

Despite the sudden change in momentum, St. Marys scored the game's next goal on what Kinsman called a "questionable offside run."

The Centennials put their heads down and scored back to back goals from Andrew Prout and Costas "Freight Train" Kollias.

Kollias said after the game he intentionally placed his shot "on the top shelf, where mom keeps the peanut butter, because of his peanut allergy."
After tying the score the Centennials tried in vain to take the win.

Late chances by newly appointed striker Chris Hern sailed far out of harm's way as the Centennials ended the game in a 3-3 tie.

Centennials player Dimitris Fragiskatos said solid play by Justin Muller and Ryan Ralph were contributing factors in the team's resurgence in the second half.
Also cited for having a good game was Centennials goalkeeper Dan Caslick.

The Centennials' next game is Saturday in London.
