EXETER – The Exeter Express are one game up on Tillsonburg for the final playoff spot in the Southwest Senior Baseball League after a weekend that saw mixed results.

The Express faced the London Bulls Friday night and came away with a 5-3 win but dropped a 9-0 decision to the Strathroy Royals Sunday.

Derek Masse pitched a solid seven innings against London, picking up the win. Chris Gosnell went the final two innings and earning the save.

Scott Harris led the Express offence with three hits, while Gosnell had two doubles. Aaron Patterson and Jake Draper each collected two hits in the game.

Sunday's effort was less encouraging for the Express, seeing their pitchers tagged for multiple runs and struggling to generate offence of their own.

Dan Masse pitched three innings in the game, while Lonnie Hawke went two innings and Ricky Regier pitched one inning.

Patterson and Draper each had two hits and Adam Leppington had a double, but none came around to score.

The Express sit fourth in the league with four regular season games left to play. Their next game is this coming Thursday in Exeter at 7:30 p.m. against Strathroy.
They then host a double-header against Tillsonburg July 25 starting at 1 p.m. that will determine the final playoff spot.
